On
September the 11th as we all should know terrorists flew two passenger aircraft
into both towers of the World
Trade
Center,
this heinous act caused both buildings to collapse killing over 5 thousand
innocent people. The
sight of this terrible tragedy repulsed everyone, we watched in horror as friends,
families and brave rescue workers lost there lives in what was one of the most
despicable acts in our history. The
world stood united in the fight against terrorism and hopefully can one day fulfill
our dreams of peace around the globe. The
fairways golf society is insignificant to the hopes of the world but we thought
that this life altering event deserved
our attention. Shortly
after this reprehensible act the fairways golf society started a collection for
the brave firefighters and rescue workers that lost their lives trying to save
others. Over
the space of two months we raised
over $350, not a great deal but not bad, Colin Mackenzie
(our vice captain) on a social trip
to Boston
decided to hand the check to the chief of the Pembroke
fire department in aid of the American
red cross on behalf of the society. We
know it is a small amount but hope it will help towards the recovery process
of our brothers across the ocean, our hearts and best wishes are with them.
Each
year the Fairways golf society holds a matchplay knockout competition, opponents
are drawn either home or away with the winner advancing to the next round until
a matchplay champion is crowned. Each
hole is scored on Stapleford
points with the player scoring the most points winning that particular hole, the
player who has won the most holes after a full round will be declared
the winner. In
the event of a draw after 18 holes the 2 players can either decide on a putt off
or a rematch at the away players home course. The matchplay entrants this year are
Fantasy

played previously as guests and general
golfing
ability. Points
are scored depending on your players score, with 5 bonus points awarded for 1 of
your players finishing in the top 5, 5 bonus points are also awarded for 1 of
you players winning nearest the pin/longest drive. 5
points will be deducted for your player finishing in the bottom 5 or not
attending the golf day. Each
entrant is entitled to 1 substitution, substitutions must be made from the same
seeded group. The
person who's team finish the season with the most points will win the top prize. Each month we will show the league table, the team and player of the month. |
